Seven scores for your face, and the room for error on each one.

Take two selfies. You get seven areas of your face, each scored out of 100 and marked with how sure the app is about it. You also get a peak score, and a four week routine built around the things habits can change.

Example scan on the Dermara score screen: an arc reading 62 of 100 with a notch marking the peak at 76, a chip reading Score 62, estimated peak 76, plus 14 in reach, a short written note, and four area tiles showing skin clarity 60 plus or minus 6, eye area 63 plus or minus 5, brows 58 plus or minus 4 and lips 64 plus or minus 4. Example data, not a real person’s result.

What it does

It scores seven areas, and tells you how sure it is about each.

This is not a verdict. It is a measurement, and it shows how much room for error there is. On the left is the example scan printed as data. On the right is the same scan in the app.

The seven scored areas in the example scan, each with its score out of 100 and its confidence band
Area Score Band
Skin clarity 60 ±6
Eye area 63 ±5
Brows 58 ±4
Lips 64 ±4
Hair condition 65 ±5
Jaw & contour 62 ±8
Balance 68 ±6

Read the band, not just the score. Skin clarity at 60 ±6 means the honest answer is somewhere between 54 and 66, so a rescan that comes back at 63 has not told you anything yet. Light, angle and camera lens all move a score by a few points, and the band is the app saying so out loud.

Example scan on the Dermara report screen, scrolled to the seven area cards: skin clarity 60 plus or minus 6, eye area 63 plus or minus 5, brows 58 plus or minus 4, lips 64 plus or minus 4, hair condition 65 plus or minus 5, jaw and contour 62 plus or minus 8, and balance 68 plus or minus 6, each with a short finding under it, above a panel titled what a photo can’t tell you. Example data, not a real person’s result.

How it works

From photo to program in five steps. None of them magic.

How it works is the product, so here is all of it, in order.

  1. It checks the photo before it scores anything

The app checks framing, light and angle first. If a photo would give an unfair result, it asks you for another one instead of scoring it anyway. A bad photo makes a bad score, and a bad score makes a bad routine.

  2. Seven areas, each out of 100, each with a band

Skin clarity, eye area, brows, lips, hair condition, jaw and contour, balance. The band on each score shows how clearly that photo showed that area. A jaw in shadow comes back with a wider band instead of a confident number.

  3. A peak, worked out from what habits can change

The peak is your score worked out again, this time with the areas a routine can change moved as far as a routine can move them. The areas set by bone stay exactly where they are. In Fig. 01 that gives a peak of 76 against a score of 62, which the app shows as +14 in reach. It is an estimate, not a promise.

  4. A program built from a library we check by hand

Your lowest scores decide which steps you get. Every step comes from a library we check by hand, and each one shows how strong the evidence behind it is. The app picks from that library. It never writes a step of its own.

  5. Weekly rescans, run through the same checks

A rescan runs the same framing and light checks as the first one. That way a change in the number is more likely to come from your skin than from your bathroom light.

03

Why trust it

The things it refuses to do are the reason to trust the rest.

Most apps like this one run on flattery or on invented rankings. Here, every step shows how strong its evidence is, every score shows its band, and the four things below will never happen.

Three evidence levels, printed on every step

  • Proven

Habits with solid evidence behind them, such as daily sunscreen, a gentle wash in the evening, and regular sleep.

  • Promising

Some evidence, but less than for proven habits. Worth doing, and labelled clearly so you always know the difference.

  • Grooming

No health claim at all. Brow shaping, lip care, hair styling. These change how you look on the day rather than your skin itself, and they are often the fastest to change.

Fig. 03 shows all three of them on a real day.

Four things it will not do

  • No percentiles

Dermara will never tell you where you rank. We do not keep a set of other people’s faces to compare you with, so we cannot make that claim, and we will not invent one.

  • No comparisons

Your scores are about your face and nothing else. There is no leaderboard, no rating against other users, and no way to score somebody else.

  • The band is on the screen

A bad angle, dim light or heavy makeup can make an area hard to read. When that happens, the score says so with a wider band or a warning. It does not pretend to be more exact than it is.

  • A peak, not a promise

The peak is an estimate, not a promise. It is based on the areas a routine can change, such as skin, brows and hair. Jaw and contour and balance are mostly set by bone, so the peak holds them exactly where they are, and the program does not pretend otherwise.

The plan

A day is five steps, sorted by when you would do them.

The routine is the part you live with, so it is built to be finished, not admired. Here is one day from the example program.

Example daily routine in the Dermara app, headed day 11 of 28, week 2, reading 2 of 5 done with score 62, peak 76 and 450 XP. Five steps grouped into morning, evening and anytime, two of them ticked off, and each one tagged proven, promising or grooming. Example data, not a real person’s result.
Fig. 03 Day 11 of 28 on the example program, week 2 of 4. Two of five steps done.
  • Grouped by when you would actually do it

Fig. 03 is day 11 of 28, week 2 of 4 in the example program. Five steps for the day, two of them ticked, sorted into morning, evening and anytime, so each step comes up when you are already in the right room for it.

  • Every step says why it is there

Under each step you get the reason, linked to a score. Sunscreen, because skin clarity carries more of the overall score than any other area. A steady sleep window, because the eye area answers to sleep faster than to anything else.

  • And what the evidence behind it is worth

Proven, promising or grooming, printed on the step itself. You always know which of the three you are doing, and nothing is made to sound better than it is.

  • The header carries the same numbers as the scan

Score 62, peak 76, and the XP your finished steps have earned. The same numbers run through the whole app, so the routine and the report can never quietly disagree.

05

Over time

Four weeks, and every stage of them written down.

The program runs four weeks. This is all of it.

  1. Day 1

    Your first scan

Two photos, seven scores, a band on each, and a peak. Everything later is measured against this first scan, which is why the app is strict about the photo.

  2. Week 1

    Basics only

The first week is basics only: the steps with the strongest evidence behind them, and nothing else on top.

  3. Weeks 2 to 4

    It steps up a level

The program adds a little each week, still from the same checked library, and every step still shows how strong its evidence is. The day gets harder without getting less honest.

  4. Every week

    Rescan and adjust

A rescan with the same framing and light checks. The scores move, and the routine moves with them. A change inside a band is noise, not progress, so read the trend over several weeks.

Then another four weeks, adjusted to your new scores, if you want them. No number is promised at the end of it, and the app will not pretend to know one.

Example route in the Dermara app, an arc reading 62 of 100 with the peak notched at 76, headed 62 to 76, above three phase cards: the basics for weeks 1 to 4, building on it for months 2 to 3, and keeping it from there on. Example data, not a real person’s result.
Fig. 04 The same three stages in the app, under the score and the peak they run between.
Example progress screen in the Dermara app: an arc reading 62 of 100 with peak 76 and a line reading about the same as the last scan, a chart of four scans reading 54, 57, 59 and 62, a grid of the days worked, and the seven areas with what each one moved. Example data, not a real person’s result.
Fig. 05 Four scans plotted. Only moves larger than the band get an arrow, so the chart does not celebrate noise.

Questions

Straight answers.

Still unsure about something? Email support. A real person will get back to you.

Can I scan someone else?

No. Dermara is built to scan your own face and nothing else. There is no search, no lookup, and no way to score another person.

Where do my photos go?

They go over an encrypted connection to our server, where an AI model looks at them and produces your scores. They are deleted as soon as the analysis finishes and are never saved to our storage. Location and device data are removed from the photo on your phone before it is sent.

How accurate are the scores?

They are estimates from a photo, which is why every score comes with a confidence band. Treat them as a starting point for the routine, not as an exact measurement.

Should I take my makeup off first?

Ideally, yes. Foundation covers the texture, tone and marks that the skin score looks at, so a scan in heavy makeup shows that score with a warning. Brows and lips read fine with makeup on. Whatever you choose, keep it the same from one scan to the next so the trend means something.

Is this medical advice?

No. Dermara scores how your face looks and suggests everyday habits. It does not diagnose anything, and it does not replace a doctor or a skin specialist. See a professional about a skin or health concern.

Do I need an account?

No. Dermara runs on an anonymous account created on your device. No email, no password, no name.

How do I delete my data?

Delete my data in the app’s Settings erases your scores, plans, coach chat and streaks from our servers. It works at any time and takes effect immediately.
