Terms of Use

These terms are the agreement between you and Dermara. They cover what Dermara is, what you may and may not do with it, and the limits on what its scores mean. By using Dermara you accept them.

Read this first. Dermara scores are automated cosmetic estimates produced from a photo of your own face. They are not medical, dermatological or psychological advice, not a diagnosis, and not a promise of any result. You must be 18 or older to use Dermara.

1. Acceptance and eligibility

By downloading, accessing or using the Dermara app or website ("Dermara," the "Service"), you agree to these Terms of Use and to our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, do not use the Service. You must be at least 18 years old and legally able to enter into this agreement. Dermara is offered in the United States, and you agree to use it only where it is lawful for you to do so.

2. What Dermara is, and what it is not

Dermara analyzes a photo of your own face to produce a score out of 100 for each of seven visible areas (skin, eyes, brows, lips, hair, jawline and harmony), an overall score, a modeled projected score, and a daily plan of habits drawn from a vetted task library. It offers weekly rescans to track change and, on a Pro subscription, a coach chat that answers questions about your own results.

Dermara is not:

  • medical, dermatological, nutritional, psychological or any other professional advice;
  • a diagnosis of, or a screen for, any skin, hair, dental or health condition;
  • an objective measurement of attractiveness, or a ranking of you against anyone else; or
  • a guarantee that following the plan will change your score, your appearance or anything else about your life.

Scores are estimates produced by an automated system from a photograph. They vary with lighting, angle, camera and image quality, they carry a confidence band for exactly that reason, and they can simply be wrong. Dermara deliberately publishes no percentiles, rankings or comparisons against other people, because it holds no dataset that would support such a claim. You are responsible for how you interpret and act on your results.

3. Not medical advice

This section is important and is a condition of your right to use Dermara.

Dermara addresses cosmetic appearance. Nothing it shows you is a medical opinion, and nothing in the app should be used to diagnose, treat, cure or prevent any condition. In particular:

  • a skin score is a comment on visible clarity in a photograph, not an assessment of acne, rosacea, pigmentation, moles, lesions or any other dermatological matter;
  • a hair score is not an assessment of hair loss or scalp health;
  • an eye, brow or lip score is a comment on how those areas appear in a photograph, not an assessment of any condition affecting them;
  • tasks about sleep, diet, exercise or skincare are general lifestyle suggestions, not a prescription, and they may not be appropriate for you; and
  • Dermara cannot see anything a photograph does not show, including any condition that needs attention.

Consult a qualified professional about any health, skin or mental health concern, and do not delay doing so because of anything Dermara told you. If using the app makes you feel worse about yourself, stop using it and consider talking to someone.

4. Your own face only

Dermara is for scanning your own face. You agree that every photo you submit is of yourself. You must not submit a photo of another person, whether or not you have their permission, and you must not use the Service to score, rate, rank or comment on anybody else. Dermara offers no search, lookup or matching against other people, and attempting to use it that way is a breach of these terms.

5. Your responsibilities

When you use Dermara, you agree that:

  • you will use it only for lawful, personal, non-commercial purposes and in line with these terms;
  • the photos you submit are of you, and submitting them violates nobody's rights and no law;
  • you are 18 or over, and you will not use Dermara to scan anyone under 18;
  • you will treat scores and plans as estimates and suggestions rather than instructions; and
  • you will comply with all laws that apply to you.

6. Prohibited conduct

In addition to Section 4, you must not:

  • reverse engineer, scrape, resell, or build a competing or derivative dataset or service from Dermara or its output;
  • attempt to bypass scan limits, security, or the subscription and entitlement system;
  • use bots, automation or bulk methods to submit scans or coach messages;
  • submit unlawful content, or content you have no right to submit;
  • use the coach chat to seek advice you would properly seek from a doctor, or to generate content that is unlawful or harmful; or
  • use Dermara in any way that is deceptive, fraudulent or harmful.

We may suspend or terminate access for any violation of these terms.

7. Subscriptions, billing and cancellation

Dermara Pro is an auto-renewing subscription, offered at $9.99 per week or $59.99 per year in the United States. The exact price in your local currency is shown in the app before you purchase. Subscriptions are sold and billed by Apple through the App Store, and payment is charged to your App Store account.

  • The introductory price of $4.99 for the first week applies to the weekly plan only, and only if your App Store account is eligible for it. After that week the subscription renews at $9.99 per week.
  • Subscriptions renew automatically at the then-current price until you cancel.
  • Cancel at any time in your App Store subscription settings. Cancel before the renewal date to avoid the next charge. See Support for the steps.
  • Deleting the app does not cancel a subscription, and neither does deleting your data in the app.
  • Refunds are handled by Apple, not by us. You can request one through Apple under its own refund policy. Where the consumer law where you live gives you mandatory refund or cancellation rights, those rights are unaffected. Apart from those routes, payments are generally non-refundable.

8. Intellectual property

Dermara, including its software, design, logo, task library and content, is owned by us and our licensors and is protected by intellectual-property laws. We grant you a limited, personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable licence to use the app for its intended purpose under these terms. You keep any rights you have in the photos you submit; you grant us only the limited permission needed to process them to produce your scores, as described in the Privacy Policy.

9. Third-party services

Dermara relies on third parties to operate, including Anthropic, PBC, whose AI model processes your photo to produce scores, a cloud provider that stores your results, and Apple and RevenueCat for billing. Their services are outside our control and we are not responsible for their acts or omissions beyond our own obligations to you. Details are in the Privacy Policy.

10. Disclaimers

THE SERVICE AND ALL SCORES, FINDINGS, PLANS AND COACH RESPONSES ARE PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE," WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, WHETHER EXPRESS, IMPLIED OR STATUTORY, INCLUDING IMPLIED WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, ACCURACY, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT. WE DO NOT WARRANT THAT ANY SCORE IS ACCURATE, CONSISTENT BETWEEN SCANS, OR MEANINGFUL, THAT ANY PLAN WILL PRODUCE ANY RESULT, OR THAT THE SERVICE WILL BE UNINTERRUPTED OR ERROR-FREE. Some jurisdictions do not allow certain warranty exclusions, so parts of this section may not apply to you.

11. Limitation of liability

TO THE FULLEST EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, DERMARA AND ITS OFFICERS, EMPLOYEES AND PROVIDERS WILL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, EXEMPLARY OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR FOR ANY LOSS OF DATA, REPUTATION OR GOODWILL, ARISING FROM OR RELATED TO YOUR USE OF, OR INABILITY TO USE, THE SERVICE, ANY SCORE OR PLAN, OR ANY DECISION YOU MAKE BASED ON THEM, INCLUDING ANY PURCHASE, TREATMENT OR PROCEDURE. TO THE FULLEST EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, OUR TOTAL LIABILITY FOR ANY CLAIM RELATING TO THE SERVICE WILL NOT EXCEED THE GREATER OF THE AMOUNT YOU PAID US IN THE 12 MONTHS BEFORE THE CLAIM OR USD $50. Some jurisdictions do not allow certain limitations, so parts of this section may not apply to you, and nothing here limits liability that cannot be limited by law.

12. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify and hold harmless Dermara and its providers from claims, damages and expenses (including reasonable legal fees) arising from your misuse of the Service, your violation of these terms, in particular the own-face-only rule in Section 4, or your violation of any law or the rights of any person.

13. Termination

You may stop using Dermara at any time by cancelling your subscription and deleting the app. We may suspend or end your access if you breach these terms or to protect the Service or others. Sections that by their nature should survive termination, including Sections 2, 3, 4, 10, 11 and 12, will survive.

14. Changes to the Service and these terms

We may change or discontinue features, and we may update these terms as the product or the law changes. We will update the "last updated" date and version above and, for material changes, provide more prominent notice. Continuing to use Dermara after an update means you accept the revised terms.

15. Governing law and disputes

To be determined. The governing law, the dispute-resolution venue, and any arbitration or class-action-waiver terms for these Terms have not yet been settled, and we will not state one here until they are. We will publish them in this section, with an updated "last updated" date, before they take effect. Until then, nothing in these terms limits any right you have under the mandatory consumer law of the country or state where you live, and any dispute is governed by whichever law would apply by default under those rules.

16. Contact

The Service is provided by Dermara, a trade name under which the Service is operated; there is no separate incorporated entity at this time. If the Service is later operated by an incorporated entity, we will update this section with its name and registered address.
